Alanya


Alanya is one of the major seaside resorts in Mediterranean coasts and also a district of Antalya. Alanya is well known for its beautiful and well maintained beaches on the east and west side of city center. City is located 135 km east of Antalya. It takes around 20 minutes by walking from bus terminal (otogar) to city center. However, there are many dolmus (mini buses) to city center and beaches.

Alanya is full of natural attractions but you can have best view of the beach from Meteoroloji sokak (Meteoroloji street). There are many nice fish restaurants, hotels, night clubs and cafes. Old houses, historical mosques, Alanya Harbor, Red Tower and Antalya castle worth visiting in this resort. Red Tower (Kizil Kule) is an important ancient structure built using red stones. Red Tower is an octagonal structure built in 1226. It is illuminated at night and has a fascinating view. Currently, this tower is used as etnographic museum and open in tuesday-sunday between 08:00-17:00.

Alanya Castle

Alanya castle is built on the rocky hill of Alanya peninsula. It takes about an hour to climb to Alanya castle. Castle is built in 13th century by Seljuk Empire Alaaddin Keykubat I. There are fantastic views of town and beaches from the castle.

Beaches

Alanya's biggest attration are beaches which lie on the east and west side of the town. There are also many water sports activities on the beaches like parasailing, water skiing and jet-ski. You can also try scuba diving. Cleopatra beach on the west part of the city has fine sands and takes its name from Egyptian Queen Cleopatra. Long beaches in Alanya are among the best beaches of Turkey.

Caves

Alanya is a rich town in terms of caves. Damlatas (aka cave of dripping stones) is the most known and located on the west of Cleopatra beach. Damlatas cave, with its moisty atmosphere, is told to have many benefits for health. There are other caves you can visit around the alanya peninsula. A boat trip can be taken to visit thes caves namely Phosphorus Cave (Fosforlu Magara), Lovers' Cave (Asiklar Magarasi) and Pirates Cave (Korsanlar Magarasi).
